U.S. Representatives are elected every two years, elected at the November election in even years.

For the August primary, ballot signature collection begins April 15th and ends June 1st.

Currently, two candidates have announced that they are running in the Democratic primary, but others may yet enter this contest.

The Wisconsin Democratic Party does not endorse or recommend candidates prior to the completion of the primary.

Both currently announced candidates are scheduled to speak at the CD-1 Convention on April 20.

Candidates are encouraged to provide information so that voters in the Democratic primary in August have access to information about all of the candidates.

Currently Announced Candidates for CD 1

Diane Anderson is the daughter of Samuel & Rita Barranco who worked hard to raise six children in a middle-class family in a diverse neighborhood in the City of Racine. Her father was a Navy veteran and her mother grew up on the Koleske family farm that stretched from Green Bay Road to the Root River in Racine County.

Diane is a wife, mother, and health care professional. She has been interested in government and politics since high school when she was a representative to Badger Girls State Leadership Program. She has been active in Racine County politics as a campaign manager for a successful campaign and has served as a volunteer for a variety of local, state, and national campaigns. Through her professional associations, she has been a legislative Advocate for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and recently for the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES).  She has served in local, state, and national leadership roles for the ADA & ADCES as well as a serving as amember and co-chair for the State of Wisconsin’s Diabetes Advisory Group.

In her professional roles as a Family Nurse Practitioner-BC, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Lifestyle Coach she has taken care of patients throughout the lifecycle, including high risk patients with diabetes and its complications and women with high risk pregnancies.

Lorenzo Santos is a 2013 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations. He then went on to serve active duty in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on the guided missile destroyer, USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79). Lorenzo left the Navy in 2016 and founded Rhetor News, an online media startup aimed at solving the issue of news deserts in the United States and eventually around the world. 

He worked for leading HVAC and Hearth manufacturer DuraVent Group from 2017 to 2021 and led their sales operations in the Midwest as their North Central Regional Sales Manager. Lorenzo returned to school and completed his Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security at The George Washington University in 2022. 

He currently serves as an Emergency Manager for Racine County and Intelligence Officer in the Navy Reserve. 

Lorenzo is a member of several professional and service organizations to include serving as Chair of the Young Democrats of Wisconsin, board member of the Racine Kiwanis Club, a member of The Racine Founder’s Rotary Club, Truman National Security Project Defense Council and The American Legion, among others. 

In his spare time, Lorenzo enjoys cooking, exploring new restaurants and performing as a Karaoke and Open Format DJ in various venues throughout Wisconsin.
